Lady of the Ball

A compilation of just about everything this 20-Something Lady has learned about life.

How much do you have to do?

I always believed that if I successfully made a big enough contribution to our society, I could help end discrimination in our country.

Yesterday, I learned that I was wrong.

Because, really, how much bigger does it get than being the first American woman in space?

Traveling is like flirting with life. It’s like saying, ‘I would stay and love you,
but I have to go; this is my station.’

Lesson #55: Avoid Public Displays of Affection

A lady knows that it’s never classy to show public displays of affection, especially grand gestures like making out against the pool table at the bar. Holding hands is fine, a quick peck might even be okay. For the most part, if you need to be that forthcoming in public it’s only making people think what is lacking in your relationship when you’re in private.

Lesson #54: If someone tells you they love you, don’t question them.

Especially if you feel the same way.

Lesson #53: Buy Jewelry you Love

One of my sisters once told me, when I was working on building my own jewelry collection, to buy jewelry that you love. It sounds simple but when looking for jewelry instead of shopping for an occasion, pick up random pieces while you’re out that you really adore. Before you know it, you’ll have a diverse collection worthy of the Lady that you are.

Lesson #52: Don’t Leave too Early…

A lady never leaves an occasion too early. Not for fear of ”missing out,” but because she’s never afraid to stay for one more drink, assuming you have not already surpassed your limit, especially if you’ve struck up a good conversation with a potential suitor.

At the same time, never stay too late. You do not want to be the last person at the event. For example, if it’s a full blown college party a good rule of thumb to follow is try and hail your designated driver before the keg kicks—nothing fun happens once it’s done.

I avoid looking back. I prefer good memories to regrets.

Lesson #51: Follow Your Instincts

A lady trusts her instincts. She knows when the goosebumps rise on the back of her neck, she’s most likely in a situation she does not want to be in; she knows when butterflies take over her stomach, it’s a feeling she does not want to let go. Remember that your instincts are not just to feel out uncomfortable situations. When something feels right, it’s probably for a reason.

Lesson #50: Take Care of Yourself

It’s one thing to love yourself, it’s another thing to take care of yourself. You only get one body, one life, one chance—don’t waste it being unhealthy.

Lesson #49: Fill Your Closet with Classics

A lady’s closet is filled with more classic pieces than one hit wonders. Do not be afraid to spend a little extra on a timeless piece that will never go out of style.

According to Muffy Aldrich, these are a few examples of timeless pieces every woman should have in her closet:

Navy Cotton Crewneck Sweater. Sperry Topsiders. A Few Great Oxfords and Polos. Khaki Chinos.
